News from Tualatin
News from Tualatin:
Well, we are back in Oregon, and we have earth-shaking news! Since we arrived here Friday afternoon, there have been three earthquakes! We didn't actually feel any of them, and I have it on good authority that we're not being held personally responsible.
It has been raining since we arrived. Now, that may not seem like "news" in as much as we are in the wet NorthWest, but this is apparently a lot of rain even by these folks' standards. Between record amounts of rain and lots of leaves on the streets, storm drains are plugging up and folks' basements are flooded. Coastal communities and low-lying communities by the rivers are getting floods, too.
The Oregon Kunzes all have colds, too, so we got your flood, plague, and earthquake right here! Morgan says maybe pestilence and some smiting later, possibly.
Karen and I are well, and not really suffering from being cooped up in what amounts to an apartment for five days together, although I've hidden the knives just to be on the safe side.
Ben is cuter than ever, and up to cool new tricks I'll let his Mom tell you about. Aaron and Morgan are cute, too, I suppose, but no new tricks, especially, from them. We had a nice belated birthday party for me on Sunday with outrageous chocolate cake and Hagen-Daz chocolate (and/or butter pecan) ice cream, home-made soup and scones (!) and presents. We had had Ben and Aaron's pre-the-date b'day party, you may remember, prior to leaving in August.
Since we saw them, the Kunzes made a trip to spend some time with Aaron's folks in Joliet. Aaron also went to his alma mater, Purdue, to see them play football against the school (Wisconsin) of a close friend who also went with him. I'll not mention how Purdue fared, but suffice it to say that Colorado Buffalo fans know how he feels.
Ben is back to being a little shy around us, but I'm sure, with persistence and bribery, we can bring him around.
Other than splashy noises 24/7 (actually 24/5 so far, but I imagine it'll continue), everything is fine here. We're going out tonight to see the "Capitol Steps" who are a singing-political-comedy group. We will not be aware of election results until we return home and turn on the TV to see how the real political-comedy group fared.
Love you guys! More later.
Mike and Karen Riley
